The $2 million will go toward improving the middle schools.ĭistrict officials will spend the remainder of this school year planning the initiative by hosting open houses with parents, students and teachers and forming partnerships with community stakeholders and businesses. State education Secretary Pedro Rivera was also on hand to announce that the Allentown School District will receive $2 million for its four middle schools because those schools are listed as by the state as Comprehensive Support and Improvement schools, meaning the total school performance falls in the bottom 5 percent of all Title I schools in a state.

At the event, the Century Trust Fund announced a $2.8 million investment over the next three years for the middle school plan.

With the support of the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Century Trust Fund, the Allentown School District is set to embark on a transformation plan for its four middle schools that will offer resources such as more support services for English language learners, and a college and career counselor in each of the schools.įriday morning at Miller Symphony Hall in Allentown, Superintendent Thomas Parker announced the Middle School Transformation kickoff event which is expected to be in place for the 2020-21 school year.
